An Edge of the Internet

Oil and Power

by Alex — Sat 10 October 2015

An oft overlooked aspect of our dependence of oil production is the concentration of power in the hands of a small number of individuals.

Concentrations of power are anathema to democracy and equality because they rig the game against cooperation, transparency and empathy: those who hold concentrated power generally benefit from entrenching that power by all means necessary.

A shift towards decentralized, renewable energy sources will greatly disrupt centralized power across the world, dealing a blow against human degradation.
